The book of Proverbs specializes in wisdom. The words wise and wisdom are used at least 125 times in Proverbs. The aim of this book by Solomon is to help us acquire and apply God’s wisdom to the decisions and activities of our daily life.
Of these 27 verses, what stands out to me today is verses 1-5. One of the greatest responsibilities as a parent and/or grandparent is to encourage our children how to become wise. Instruction and encouragement come from both parents. Fathers are wonderful at teaching their children skills and mothers encourage with tenderness and compassion. The home remains the most important place for education. As a parent and/or grandparent we have the opportunity for the most profound and lasting influence right in our homes.
Wisdom should be passed on from parents to children, from generation to generation. Ultimately, all wisdom comes from God; but as parents we can only urge our children to turn to Him. As we teach scripture to our children, we are creating a legacy of wisdom.
