WHY DO WE NEED GOD’S WORD DAILY? God’s Word nourishes us, sustains us and satisfies our every need!
BIBLE BUNDLE – LUKE 7, 8, 9.
When reading Luke 7, I immediately saw Jesus’ heart of compassion. The four stories in this chapter deal with a saddened centurion, a weeping widow, a perplexed prophet, and a heartbroken harlot. In each story, Jesus shows His heart of compassion toward them, which blesses me greatly because I know He cares about me in the same way. Times of sickness and trials are when people most often reach out to God. What tends to motivate you to seek Jesus?
Chapter 8 introduces us to some women who traveled alongside Jesus and the disciples. Women played a key role in Jesus’s ministry. Who are some women you know through whom God works powerfully to expand his kingdom today?
Jesus begins to teach in parables in a way that would conceal the truth. He does this to honor the wishes of every person. If a person does not want to see, the Lord won’t force his way upon him. Jesus could have spoken persuasively and argued so powerfully that people who didn’t want to be converted would be converted even against their own will. But Jesus is not after conversion by force because he honors man’s free choice. Teaching through parables provided a way for those who wanted to know the truth to receive it, while those who didn’t want to know would be unable to receive it. We can receive the identical word from God and yet respond in a wide variety of ways. How fruitful is God’s word in your life?
Chapter 9 brings up many questions in my walk with Jesus. Did you notice that Jesus always draws his disciples to him first so he can empower them for their assignment(v 1)? Are you sometimes so eager to be sent out that you don’t take time first to draw near? I can answer yes to this over and over.
How does the way you live your life answer the question, Who do you say that Jesus is (v. 20)?
How much of your prayer time is spent telling God your plans, and how much is spent listening to his (v. 33)?
