Day after day when I spend time in God’s Word, my thoughts tend to jump ahead to today’s to-do list. I am constantly distracted with the thoughts in my head of the next task. To help with this distraction, I keep my daily planner right next to my Bible. The reason I do this, as soon as I start my time with God, some unfinished task pops into my mind.
- An errand left undone.
- An unanswered text reply.
- An incomplete assignment.
So instead of being distracted by these task , I just make a note of it. Then instantly, I can lay that issue aside and go back to my reading. This allows me to bring my mind back to the Word of God for the refreshment and renewal I need for the day. By spending time with God, He strengthens me to face whatever the day brings. Try keeping a small notebook for any unfinished task that pops into your mind during your time with God. You heart will be better for it and your mind will relax in His presence.
Luke 10:39-42 (CSB)
39 She had a sister named Mary, who also sat at the Lord’s feet and was listening to what he said.40 But Martha was distracted by her many tasks, and she came up and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to serve alone? So tell her to give me a hand.” 41 The Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things,42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has made the right choice,[ and it will not be taken away from her.”
