Thanksgiving is one of my favorite days of the year! We celebrate it with lots of food, family, football and watching the Macy’s Day Parade. But woven throughout all of what we do is an attitude of abundant gratitude for the blessings God has given us. Every day I write what I am thankful for in my gratitude journal. These are things I can’t buy but what God has created for me to enjoy.
What are some of the blessings that are on your list to thank God for this year? Your physical health…or His faithfulness to see you through sickness? Your financial health…or His wisdom to help you navigate financial disaster? Your family and friends who have stayed with you through good times and bad…or His comfort to ease the pain of those who have abandoned you?
As I think through the things for which I am truly thankful, I sometimes wonder if my list of thanks is superseded by my list of wants. Just walking through my neighborhood can deceive me into thinking I don’t have enough. In the world of consumerism in which we live, I need to guard against becoming discontented with what I have. I don’t want to become someone who is hard to satisfy…who thinks that I never have enough.
As a child of God, I have been blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ. I have been blessed with the things that truly matter from Heaven’s perspective.
Jesus is all I need. Jesus is enough. If Jesus is God in human flesh, revealing to us exactly what God is like… If Jesus holds the highest position in the universe, and everything and everyone is subjected to His authority… If Jesus has a purpose that He is actively competing in the universe as well as in your own life… It stands to reason that He is enough for anyone, for everyone, at any time, all the time, in any situation, for every situation!
This Thanksgiving, would you thank God for Jesus by choosing to make the time to get to know Him for who He is in His deity, authority, supremacy, and activity? Read your Bible every day, listening for Him to speak to you through it. Talk to Him in prayer. Discover for yourself that Jesus is enough!
