Why Read God’s Word Daily?
Our daily time in the Word is not designed to produce theologians or to teach us every Bible story. Our time in the Word is to make us more and more like Jesus so we can show the world an accurate reflection of what God is like.
Luke 3 As I read Luke 3, I ask myself many questions.
John the Baptist’s purpose was to prepare people to come to Jesus (vv. 4-6). What am I doing to make it easier for people to find their way to Jesus?
The message of John the Baptist and Jesus centered on repentance of sins. Repentance is necessary to prepare our hearts for Jesus. Repentance requires humility, honesty, and a willingness to change. Genuine repentance is characterized by fruit (vv. 8-14). What adjustments have I made as a result of my repentance?
John was imprisoned for speaking God’s Word uncompromisingly (vv. 19-20). Have I suffered for holding to the truth of God’s Word? Do I talk about God freely without hesitation?
Luke’s gospel traces Jesus’s genealogy back to Adam, indicating he was the Savior of all people, not just the descendants of Abraham (vv. 24-38). Who in my life needs to hear about God’s salvation?
