Jeremiah – Without God, nothing gets done: with Him, there is nothing that can’t be done.
Join us as we start in the book of Jeremiah this week. Jeremiah was a prophet who had the unsavory assignment of declaring to the nation of Judah that the Babylonians were coming. The people did not listen and it did not help that there was a group of false prophets who were saying everything was just fine and that there was nothing to worry about.
Did you know that Jeremiah and Jesus shared a lot of character traits? Jesus and Jeremiah were both tough by confronting their enemies but on the other hand, both were tenderhearted and deeply loved Israel, weeping over her sin. One of my favorite verses in chapter 1 is verse 5:
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
Before you were born I set you apart.
I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
I take this verse to heart. Did you know God knew you long before you were born or conceived. He thought about you and planned you. When you feel discouraged or inadequate, remember that God has always thought of you as valuable and that he has a purpose in mind for you. Ask yourself, do you trust that God has a wonderful plan for your life? Or do you feel somewhat like Jeremiah-dubious and fearful? God knows each of us from the moment of conception and has a meaningful plan for our lives. I encourage you to spend time in scripture and prayer and ask God to make His plans clear for your life.
