The word we live in tells us to do more and more. According to the world, if we don’t do more we are not successful. We also live in a world that is so busy they have forgotten God. On Sunday mornings, you can find children and their parents on the sports field instead of at church. We live in a world that is self-absorbed. We live in a Me-Generation – my goals, my vision, my calendar, my time, my success, etc.
This past week we were playing a game in our young moms group. One of the questions was how many selfies do you have of yourself on your phone? I was sure the girl next to me with 1400 selfies had to win. She didn’t, the winner had over 3000 selfies on her phone.
As we look into the new year 2020, we have to put the Me behind us and ask – What is God calling you to do? What is the most important calling on your life? The older I get I have learned – you don’t have to find your calling. If you follow God, your calling will find you!! I love the fact that Moses, Samuel, Jeremiah and Isaiah heard God’s voice and they immediately said, “Here I am Lord.” They said use me before they knew what God was going to call them to do. That is total trust! They positioned themselves before the Lord and they said Here I am, use me!
You want to know what your calling is? Your first calling is to KNOW HIM! Your second calling is to MAKE HIM KNOWN. In other words, bring glory to HIM.
We need to spend more time in God’s Word everyday so that we are peeled away from our pathetic preoccupation with ourselves.
